VCCA Salon - JoAnn Balingit and Reece Camp Carter

Wednesday, September 14, 2022 | 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Reahard Learning Gallery

As many as 400 artists a year enjoy residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Fellows, as they are known, frequently visit SBC classes, and each month, the Center hosts an evening Salon Series, in which two or three Fellows are invited to campus to present their work to the community. Join us this month for JoAnn Balingit and Reece Camp Carter.

JoAnn Balingit is a poet and essayist, who served as Delaware's poet laureate from 2008 to 2015. A second-generation Filipino American, Balingit will read from her current project, a visual-lyrical memoir about migration, mixed-race identity, family secrets, and reclaiming history.

Reece Camp Carter is a mixed media artist interested in civic engagement, joining communities to address solutions to housing, mental health, and equity. Carter will present about her site responsive installation along the North Bank of the James River Park System.
